Discussion: Week 4 & Final--Matched

This week wraps up our discussion of the book Matched by Ally Condie. Chapters covered this week were Chapters 25--32.

Below are the questions for our final discussion. Discussion for Week 3 is HERE. Week 2 Discussion can be found HERE. Week 1 Discussion can be found HERE.

Just a reminder--we are starting our new book, The Help by Kathryn Stockett tomorrow. Beginning with our final discussion for Matched and leading up until the end of Week 3, each discussion question answered and every question submitted to us for the discussions will count towards an entry into a random drawing for either our selection after The Help or another selection of your choosing. We hope to drum up more participation. If you get a friend to join AND participate, you will get an extra entry. We will announce the winner at the beginning of Week 4 of The Help. If this idea works well, we may continue for future books. This idea sort of reminds me of the Capital and the tesserae from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Only we have a much happier motive and ending in mind! :)

Don't forget to e-mail us ( or your suggestions for the poll to choose our selection after The Help.

To help avoid spoilers, Discussion Questions are hidden below, click "Read More" to continue to the discussion. Please be sure to reference the number of the question you are answering. Thanks for joining us in reading Matched. We hope you've enjoyed the book and the discussions that ensued.

1. In Chapter 25, Ky tells Cassia that no one cares about the past. Why do you think that is? Do you think he's correct?

2. Also in Chapter 25, Ky then tells Cassia that the voice singing the one of the hundred songs is not a real voice, that it was made to be perfect. If the Society actually saved the song why didn't they preserve the original voice? Do you think any of the other Hundred... saved things have been altered?

3. In chapter 26, if you were Cassia, where would you have sorted Ky?

4. Chapter 27--do you agree with Cassia's reasoning for telling Xander she is in love with Ky?

5. Chapter 28--do you think there was ever a reason for the hikers to mark paths on the hill? If so, why were they made to take their markers down?

6. Chapter 29 Who is the Enemy?

7. Chapter 30--what do you think is Cassia's predicted final outcome? Do you think the Officials will be correct? What do you think will happen if they are wrong? Do you think they'll still monitor Cassia?

8. Do you believe the officials reason about Ky being placed into the matching pool?

9. The ending of this book sets up for a sequel (Crossed, coming in fall 2011). What do you predict will happen in the next book? Will you read the sequel?

10. What were your favorite parts in this book/what you loved about the book?

11. Was there anything you disliked?

12. Any other thoughts you have that you'd like to share?
